8) Hang on — found another Muslim story!

I’m not going to apologize for citing David Harris again. I wish he was quoted more often, not less. You see, I almost forgot to tell you about the “investigation” prompted by one disgruntled traveler’s YouTube video:

Despite a burgeoning bureaucracy and millions spent monitoring aviation screening, it took a smudgy YouTube  video to awaken the government to the fact that face-veiled passengers appeared to be bounding onto planes [at Montreal's Trudeau International Airport] without necessary security checks. The tentative verdict: Some airport security staff, confronted by unco-operative masked travellers or their male handlers, simply give up and allow boarding without face identification.

A former U.S. Special Forces soldier reportedly saw arrogant face-veiled women “harangue” and threaten a screener with lawsuits for daring to ask to see their faces in a private room. The screener caved, let them pass, and was humiliated with laughter from the victorious women who — in Arabic — disparaged “simpleton Canadians.”

Confidence inspiring spectacles such as that one bring to mind a story told by Nonie Darwish during her visit to Toronto last November:

The “bearded, Pakistani-looking” border guy [at Pearson Airport] went through the usual spiel [with Darwish at the counter]: “Business or personal?”

He kept pressing her to describe her business in Toronto and Ottawa in more and more detail.

When she finally said she was going to speak about sharia, he fixed his eyes on her and intoned:

“We are NOT to question sharia.”

I feel so much safer knowing this guy is working at my airport, and for all I know, living in my condo!

Anyway, I’m seriously considering tying a scarf on my head the next time I travel by plane. I expect I’d receive much better treatment by airport staff.
