Only two short years ago, Barrack Obama was regaled as a messianic figure. Rolling Stone had a March 2008 cover photo where candidate Obama stood heroic, fists planted firmly at the hip, backlit against a bright blue sky as if he may launch up, up, and away.
Remember Peggy Joseph? She was a rank and file Obama supporter who cashed in her fifteen minutes of fame when interviewed at a campaign rally. She described the event as “the most memorable moment” of her life.
Because I never thought this day would ever happen. I won’t have to worry about putting gas in my car. I won’t have to worry about paying my mortgage. If I help [Obama], he’s gonna help me.
To such an adherent, Obama must have seemed the fulfillment of Revelation 21:4.
He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.
However, if we are to follow the messianic narrative, it follows that a time would come when even the most devout supporters would deny their savior. PJTV’s Lionel Chetwynd argues that time is now. Reflecting upon mid-August’s Los Angeles fundraiser, during which Obama’s motorcade wreaked havoc with rush hour traffic, Chetwynd speculates that Hollywood – a bastion of leftist zeal and activism – wants nothing to do with Obama’s eminent political crucifixion.
