[O]ne of the most frequent Daily Kos bloggers is one called Heathlander[31] who also maintains his own blog.[32] Heathlander has penned diaries – which are still up on the Kos website – with such headlines as “Suicide Bombings Are An Inevitable Result Of Israel’s Military Policies”[33] and “Israeli war criminals – in their own words.”[34] In one post Heathlander says: “Just as the French had the right to violently resist the Nazi occupation…so the Palestinians have the right to violently resist the Israeli occupation.”[35] In one long post, Heathlander would not condemn a fellow Kos blogger who used the term “Zionist Occupied America.”
What is slightly surprising, I suppose, is that an administrator from Daily Kos covers his back.
When some of the Jewish members of Daily Kos argued against this atrocious nonsense and Hide Rated heathlander’s comment, Meteor Blades (with all the overblown authority of a Daily Kos administrator) warned those Jews to back off.
HRing for opinion and when engaged in a direct dispute is unacceptable and warnings are being – have been – issued in this matter.
Right. Heathlander was merely expressing an opinion and opinions should never be Hide Rated. (For those of you who may not know, a “Hide Rate” is a way for Kossacks to express disapproval of any given comment. Any comment with sufficient HRs becomes invisible to the general public and can only be accessed by Daily Kos members who have what they call Trusted User status. There is an entire conversation in the worst of the muck completely hidden from the public eye.)
I dare say, though, if I were to express the opinion that African-American slavery was a benevolent institution that benefited the slaves, themselves, that I would not only get HRd, but banned entirely from Daily Kos, and rightly so.
Yet, according to Meteor Blades, the idea that the Jews are racists for rebuilding their home after 2,000 years of persecution is merely an opinion and must be respected.
It’s vile. And one reason that it pisses me off is because the Jews supported the progressive movement in the United States for at least one hundred years.
Now, however, the movement has turned against us.
“Every ZioNazi is a legitimate military target.”
I was at this rally in San Francisco.
