He’s got the sweet talk, he’s filthy rich, he’s got the fancy limos and he’s got that swagger, but when it comes to performance he just can’t deliver.
The Labor Department released its unemployment figures on Thursday. Not good for the double-talker-in-chief. First time claims for jobless benefits rose by 12,000 last week reaching the half a million mark. And this, according to the LA Times, is the fourth jump in five weeks.
Surprising news in the wake of Obama’s speech to Smith Electric Vehicles Company in Kansas City, Missouri last month assuring the workers that the Recovery Act/Stimulus package has successfully created jobs, spurred economic growth and will produce clean energy. He’s positive that the near trillion dollar stimulus bill will deliver on its original intent:
What is absolutely clear is that we’re moving in the right direction.
Tell that to the 12,000 newly unemployed. As with all relationships, pretty words and promises only go so far. Soon all 309 million Americans will be shouting, “Show me what my hard-earned tax dollars have bought.”
The Recovery Act promised to “jumpstart the economy” and ‘foster unprecedented levels of accountability and transparency in government spending.” After almost two years, this seductive rhetoric from the smooth operator himself has proven to be an outright lie as more Americans see the stimulus money as nothing but a “slush fund.”
With jobless claims rising for the third week in a row and one in five Americans out of work an impotent administration keeps trying to charm its way out of disaster. But in the end it’s only words and words are all these philandering rakes have.
