Look, I know that many of these realities about the nature of Islam can be a bit of a shock to people when they first encounter them. There’s an impulse to try and rationalize them away by trying to compare Islam to Christianity or Judaism. (Good luck finding the New Testament verses where Jesus talks about his harem.) There’s a tendency to want to say that we must be “quoting verses out of context.” (By all means, please read the entire book yourself so you can see the whole picture.)
So if the above verse and interpretation are being misinterpreted — not by me but by the Islamic scholars who I’m citing — then please explain the correct historical interpretation which demonstrates how they fit into a religion dedicated to “advancing the dignity of all human beings.” President Obama?
But it’s not just women “whom thy right hand possesses” who are slaves. My friend and colleague, ex-Muslim Bosch Fawstin summarizes the reality of the religious ideology promoted by our commander in chief:
A Muslim as he ought to be is, in essence, a slave of Allah. He must submit his all to Allah, without queston. Islam expects Muslims to be slavish in their devotion to Islam, anything less is considered heretical. If you’re not all in, Islam doesn’t recognize you as a Muslim. It’s either total submission or infidelity. If you’re not part of organized Islam, you’re something other than a Muslim as Islam defines it. Far as Islam is concerned, there are two kinds of people: Muslims & Infidels, period.
If this is an incorrect summary of Islam’s teaching then by all means please refute it. Perhaps a good place to start in any introductory debate about Islam is by pointing out any inaccuracies in the following video:
