Separation of Temple and State
The prequel films seem to portray a constructionist constitutional view of the First Amendment when it comes to freedom of religion. The Jedi Order is a plainly religious institution which is intimately involved in affairs of state. Yet, there is no “establishment of religion.”
The Jedi deploy as ambassadors and peacekeepers when asked. They walk the corridors of power as advisers, not legislators, and are only regarded as a threat by those conspiring to destroy the republic.
