Administration to Virginia: We Have Ways To Make You Surrender

It took the Obama administration threatening to wipe out over 5,000 jobs in Norfolk, Virginia to rouse the ire of both Democrats and Republicans. The president’s high flying rhetoric about the virtues of bipartisanship has come to fruition.

Remember the president’s victory speech on November 6, 2008 and his eloquent appeal to reject ugly partisan squabbles?

Let’s resist the temptation to fall back on the same partisanship and pettiness and immaturity that has poisoned our politics for so long.

Well, he wanted the differing factions to come together, and after a year and a half he’s finally ticked them off so much that they’re joining forces.

On Monday August 9, Defense Secretary Robert Gates announced that he was going ahead with his recommendation to close the Joint Forces Command Center, one of ten major military command centers in the U.S.

At a hastily assembled press conference at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Governor McDonnell (R) stood in solidarity with Rep Bobby Scott (D), Mayor Paul Fraim (D), Rep J Randy Forbes (R), Rep Glenn Nye (D), and Congressman Rob Wittman (R). McDonnell called the administration’s decision “short-sighted, and dangerous to national security.”

Representative Bobby Scott who helped warm up Virginia Beach crowds for Obama with shouts of “Yes, we can” back in 2008 looked as though he’d lost all hope in that “hope ‘n’ change.” Apparently, he reached out to Gates’ reps saying “we called earlier today and we frankly did not get a coherent response or explanation of what would happen.” Senators Warner and Webb, couldn’t figure it out either; totally unaware of Gates’ plan they vowed to work together to reverse the decision.

Virginia has become the newest target for the Chicago corruptocrats.  The Commonwealth recently gained national attention when Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli stood his ground by filing a lawsuit against Obamacare and clarifying the state’s policy on illegal immigration.

The Obama administration is not happy. Like the mob, they can’t go after the state officials, that’s too obvious. They’ll just hit them where it hurts–like laying off innocent constituents in droves. Maybe the sight of 5,000 men and women looking for work in a 9.5% unemployment economy will change Cuccinelli’s mind. The Chicago Four, Michelle, Valerie, Rahm, and Barack are out to teach Virginia a lesson: mess with our Leftist agenda and we’ll get even.

According to Gates, it’s all about “the culture of endless money” that’s contributed to the Pentagon’s “cumbersome and top-heavy budget.” He wants to save 100 billion over the next five years. That’s an even more chilling scenario than closing the Norfolk center. Rep. Forbes expressed his shock at ‘‘the piecemeal auctioning off of the greatest military the world has ever known.”

Warner, Webb and Scott helped turn Virginia blue in ’08. In less than two years the people voted for a Republican Governor and a Republican Attorney General as a referendum on their disdain for the policies of the newly elected Commander-in-Chief. After Secretary Gates’s move on Monday, the Dems should have little doubt they’ve been double-crossed by some very ruthless and vindictive operatives. A genuine bipartisanship may be their only defense.
