NRB managing editor David Swindle recently wrote about a few of the common bonds of libertarians, neo-cons, objectivists and social conservatives and how they can join in Fighting Evil Together against the leftist agenda. He may have hit upon a dynamic that is already very much a reality if a recent protest in Charlottesville, VA, is any indication. On August 2, pro-life Tea Party group DefundIt.org, angered over Pelosi Kamikaze Congressman Tom Perriello’s pro-abortion vote for ObamaCare, faced off against fake Catholic organization Catholics United.

Some concerned citizens rallied on the Downtown Mall Monday to protest Congressman Tom Perriello’s vote supporting health care reform. Others gathered to respond to those claims and voice their support for Perriello’s vote in favor of reform.

The group DeFundIt.org and the Jefferson Area Tea Party gathered Monday in Charlottesville and argued that Fifth District Rep. Tom Perriello broke his promise to his constituents when he voted for health care reform. They say the plan Perriello voted for will cover elective abortions through high-risk insurance pools, something they say the Federal Government temporarily blocked last week.

“I don’t think he was sincere about his pledge. He was looking for a way to vote for the law, ultimately, and so he basically ignored it and pretended it’s not in there. The government confirmed last week that it is,” said Alex Cortes, of DefundIt.org.

The Perriello protesters were met by other citizens who voiced approval for the Congressman. Members of Charlottesville Catholics United gathered Monday to respond, saying that the claims about federal funding for abortion in the law are false.

The pro-life movement in America was nearly able to bring down the Democratic Party’s pro-abortion government-run healthcare legislation. Now, the Catholic Left, particularly the Soros-funded Catholics United, is playing a primary role in working to re-elect ostensibly “pro-life” Democratic legislators who voted for it. As much as some may like for the abortion issue to go away, the August 2 protest against Perriello indicates that all who are opposed to the leftist agenda may do well to hold their noses and work with others who are actively opposing the same leftist agenda. The Left is quite adept at organizing joint protests between groups that focus on different issues but share in common a disdain for the Right.  Perhaps we could all  learn a lesson from pro-lifers and Tea Party activists in Virginia.
