The developing conventional wisdom throughout the conservative blogosphere seems to be that the 92,000 documents on Afghanistan dumped by the leftist Wikileaks site are meaningless. These aren’t the Pentagon Papers. We know what’s in them.
This argument — true or false — is beside the point. Whether these documents contain important material or not it’s too soon to say. (There’s 92,000 pages here!) The potential danger should not be downplayed.
The central issue that is not being adequately discussed is this: if you publish classified documents you should go to jail. If you break the law then you should face the consequences. This is not that complicated. These 92,000 pages were classified for a reason. And if they’re harmless then they shouldn’t have been classified to begin with.
Wikileaks founder Julian Assange is an anti-American leftist who is trying to sabotage the free world’s efforts to win the war against Islamic Fascism. As I’ve written about previously, is there a meaningful difference between sabotaging the good guys and supporting the bad guys? Not really.
