We often say that Islam is not a religion but a political ideology because the essence of Islam is not the fostering of individual piety, but the ordering of social institutions according to the values of Islam. Islam is not content with its adherents relating to God as private entities. Its ultimate goal is the conformity of the human race to a unified code of life dictated by the Islamic concept of Allah, men, and women and how they are to relate to him and to one another.
The essence of Islam, that which makes Islam itself and not another religion, is its belief that this social order, Sharia, is the will of God for all and that Muslims must actively bring about universal submission to it.
If you take this away, you no longer have Islam. Why? Because, to do so questions either the divine origin of the religion, or the duty of man to obey it. A Muslim who accepts that society need not be ordered as Allah via Mohammad ordered it, is not a Muslim.
I used the word “eradicate,” because I believe in Aristotle’s principle of non-contradiction. I cannot conclude that Islam is ontologically, aggressively opposed to my non-Sharia existence without adopting every means by which Islam may be contained, neutralized, and ultimately removed from the West. I did not say, “We must eradicate Muslims.” I hope that exposure to Western culture will convince Muslims that the origin of a faith that annihilates reason and free-will could hardly be the Author of human nature Himself, but I no more believe in the forceful deposing a religious conviction than I believe in its forceful imposition.
Having read the works of Robert Spencer, the extensive information of the Freedom Center, and at Discover the Networks, it becomes harder and harder to embrace the principle of religious relativism. Logically, one cannot conclude that all religions are equally true and good or that they manifest themselves in equally beneficial civilizations. The fruits, the consequences of Islam, wherever Western ideology does not dilute the effects, are truly terrifying.
If Calvin is right and there are Muslims who will band together and officially deny any obligation to work for Sharia, such that not one single aspect of non-Muslim life be modified to accommodate or facilitate Islam, then I will be happy to modify my title.
