Beware of flying chairs if you report anything that can hurt Obama.

Anyone who has ever watched pro-wrestling or Bobby Knight knows that throwing chairs can be a dangerous thing.  It’s dangerous coming from angry coaches or massive wrestlers.  But it’s downright shocking to hear a journalist suggest it.  Yet that is exactly what The Guardian‘s American editor Michael Tomasky called for in the wake of Jeremiah Wright coverage during the 2008 Presidential election.

Obviously Tomasky was speaking figuratively, but his words are just part of the many alarming statements by journalists released this week by The Daily Caller.  By now you probably have heard about this story.   NewsReal is in full coverage mode on the revelation that many in the mainstream media actively sought to kill the Jeremiah Wright coverage during the 2008 election.

The plan to stop the focus on Wright first began when ABC News did a hard hitting interview with then candidate Barack Obama and had the audacity to bring up Wright.  Journalists on the Left went into panic mode to stop any further questioning on that topic.  They wanted to protect Obama and many suggested using any means necessary to silence journalists asking questions about Wright.

One of the main culprits was Tomasky.  He wrote to his fellow journalists on the listserv “Journolist”:

Listen folks — in my opinion, we all have to do what we can to kill ABC and this idiocy in whatever venues we have. This isn’t about defending Obama. This is about how the [mainstream media] kills any chance of discourse that actually serves the people…We need to throw chairs now, try as hard as we can to get the call next time. Otherwise the questions in October will be exactly like this. This is just a disease.

Others suggested using the listserv to send out a united and strong warning against ABC and any others who would ask questions about Wright.  Such a warning would clearly be used to censor other journalists.  Tomasky responded approvingly, ““YES. A thousand times yes.”  Tomasky has a bit of a history of trying to kill stories and campaigns he doesn’t like (he did the same thing to Ralph Nader in the 2004 election).

Tomasky and the many others revealed in The Daily Caller piece have made it clear that they are not objective journalists.  They are masters of propaganda willing to push an agenda no matter what it takes.  Stories that hurt the agenda need to be silenced.  If people get in way they should be mocked or attacked.
