I listen to conservative talk radio because I’m a fan, and also because I write the Talk Radio Watch column for WND. Luckily, blogger Brian Maloney (the “Radio Equalizer”) listens to the noise on the left side of the dial, so I don’t have to.

This week, he manfully chronicled what seems to be a secret contest between the better known libtalkers to top each other’s on-air meltdowns.

Randi Rhodes compared Rush Limbaugh to Fred Phelps of the Westboro “Baptist” “Church.” (Conveniently overlooking Phelps’ support of Democratic politicians…)

Then Bill Press scolded “spoiled Americans” for failing to recognize the greatness of President Obama (while overlooking the fact that, presumably, these same “spoiled Americans” were the ones who voted for Obama in the first place.)

However, it is always difficult for anyone to challenge Ed Schultz when it comes to unhinged rhetoric, and this week was no exception.

On Wednesday, Ed Schultz called Republicans “anti-American” and conservative talk radio hosts “psycho-talkers.” However, he also turned attention to other liberals, shouting:

“Look, Democrats, I’m your best friend. I’ve been across the country. I’ve taken thousands of e-mails. Our team works 16 hours a day. We do a TV and a radio show. I’m trying to tell you what the hell’s going on! But you sit back! And Harry [Reid], you are ball-less.”

Whether or not this kind of thing is fun to listen to is a matter of personal taste. However, it’s surely a sign that progressive pundits — who surely must speak for some constituency within the Democratic Party’s  — are fed up with everybody, inside and outside of Washington.

How this anger will manifest in November is anyone’s guess.
