By the way, it should interest one that Gail Collins, A.O. Scott’s colleague at The New York Times, wrote a recent column where she seemed to be firmly in the “Team Edward” camp. It appears that Ms. Collins is in the “Team Edward” camp for the same reason that I am firmly in the “Team Edward” camp–we both believe that real men sparkle. Furthermore, I also happen to think that having a boyfriend that turns into a giant dog isn’t not all that it’s cracked up to be (you know, fleas and shedding), but I digress.

Anyway, the take-home point is not whether A.O. Scott is right about being on “Team Jacob”, or whether he’s right about Twilight having bad acting. (I have disagreed with Scott’s movie reviews in the past, and I’m sure that I will disagree with him again in the future.) The larger point here is that grown adults, who write for The New York Times, are declaring whether they are “Team Edward” or “Team Jacob” in the first place. This “taking of sides” signifies that the Twilight movies are, now, officially and forever part of American cinematic pop culture.

So, in conclusion, you are probably wondering if you should go see Twilight Eclipse or not. Well, my question to you is, did you enjoy the first two Twilight movies? If your answer is yes, then you will probably love Twilight Eclipse even more than the first two because it has more action scenes with vampires and werewolves fighting. Furthermore, this film has even more romance than the first two Twilight films combined–but, parents won’t be embarrassed to watch it with their preteens either. Not to mention, in this third installment of the Twilight series, Edward’s character became a lot more fleshed out than it was in the previous films.

Now, if you didn’t like the first two Twilight movies–and you don’t like monster flicks in general–then save your twenty bucks, or go see Despicable Me instead. This isn’t an exact science and I can’t really review Twilight Eclipse like a I would a Shakespeare film. Just like with the whole “Team Edward/Team Jacob” thingy, there’s no real right or wrong answer here–just personal preference.

However, if you love a good monster flick and you are looking for a PG-13 way to “keep the gators fed”, then watching Twilight Eclipse is definitely a great way to spend your Saturday afternoon or evening. Have fun, and remember that “real men sparkle”.
