The intrinsic superiority of our core values and the manner in which these were manifest in our Western history are the subjects of a remarkable paper delivered by Robert Spencer, Frontpage Magazine expert on Islam and editor of Jihad Watch, to the International Free Press Society in Copenhagen. The speech treats the Crusades and Spain under Islamic Rule. Spencer deftly explains the fundamental differences between the isolated defense campaigns that were the Crusades, and the institutionalized use of violent military expansionism mandated by Islam for the universal domination of mankind by Sharia Law. He also speaks of the non-existent “paradise” supposedly brought to life by Islamic tolerance of Christians and Jews living in conquered Spain under Islamic masters.
Spencer makes it very clear that Islamic whitewashing of its own brutally militant past and attempts to equate Western civilization with this religious violence are deliberately disseminated to contribute to an apathetic resistance to our own demise. The Crusades are a favorite historical event used by the Left and by Islam to demonstrate that we, as a people, are corrupt. Spencer’s talk goes a long way in providing a more accurate interpretation of these events that have been used to delegitimize our love of Western principles.
Israel has been sold by the British for “Peace in Our Times,” to those planning the Second Holocaust and the end of Western Civilization. It is imperative that we acquaint others with scholarship like that of Spencer to rekindle our appreciation for the philosophy and way of life of which we are the inheritors.
A choice between this Civilization, based upon the rule of Law, respect for objective Truth, and Charity, or an Islamic Misogynist Totalitarianism is before us. Admiration for our founding principles and the good that they permitted in our history is the strongest defense against betraying Israel to our enemy today and surrendering ourselves tomorrow.
