And here we arrive at the root of the foreign policy “nightmare” of the past 9 yeas. Here is the father of all things which have wrecked havoc on the progressive psyche for almost a decade: the War on Terror, Axis of Evil, rendition, Guantanamo Bay, waterboarding, the Iraq War…
One of my most profound ideological moments came last fall when I was watching Hannity interview Cheney. It was the first time I’d really thought about and focused on Cheney and his ideas since I’d been mugged by reality and eventually surrendered to conservatism.
And I realized he was a hero. I found myself in excited agreement with all of his remarks about the war with Islamofascism and the disturbing path Obama was heading down. I soon discovered that my admitting my revised opinion of the former Vice President was basically the most disturbing thing I could now say to my progressive friends and family.
One of the key lessons to learn from Cheney is this: do not care what the Left thinks of you. Their opinion of you and your policies is irrelevant. Just let it bounce off and proceed with defending America. That’s what Cheney did during the Bush years and what we must do today and tomorrow.
