5. Sarah Palin
The reasons why the Left hates Sarah Palin have been laid out frequently by plenty of writers, including many at NRB. The answers are numerous and fairly obvious so I won’t rehash them here. What I will say though is that the trend we’ve been seeing with Palin recently has been very encouraging. While she may have been green during her vice presidential run she’s learning from many of the other people on this list very quickly. In the past I’ve been skeptical of the possibility of a President Palin but if she continues in this fashion then that might change.
4. Ann Coulter
I have a hard time imagining another conservative commentator who could ever emerge who would electrify leftists at their very core the way Ann Coulter does. I’ve described her as the Queen on the Conservative Chessboard and stand by that characterization.
Unlike Beck she is not a clown, though she often does what are basically stand-up comedy routines. The difference between Coulter and Beck is that Queen Ann’s satire cuts to the bone marrow of the Left’s most sacred beliefs. The wounds she inflicts and the pain she causes to America’s enemies are unparalleled in our political culture by any other pundit. And that’s why I’ll defend her legitimacy even when my conservative friends bristle at some of the things she says.
3. George W. Bush
Why not #1? That’s probably the obvious question. The answer is because leftists don’t regard Bush as an evil man. They see him as a pawn and a moron who was used by much smarter, more demonic figures. (Those below.) Just look at every leftist parody of Bush from Will Ferrell to Li’l Bush to “Harold and Kumar.” They’re almost affectionate in a strange way. Of course that doesn’t matter and they’ll still hate him. After all, he has blood on his hands.
Try and understand what it’s like to think that the twice-elected president of your country is a mass murderer and you can begin to understand the psychosis of the Left. Because you can’t just hate the President, you must also hate your own country for voting for him when all the “facts” were on the table making it abundantly clear what kind of evil was afoot.
But radicals go to the root, and the supposed evil of the Bush years did not originate with the President.
2. Karl Rove
To the Left, Rove is not only complicit in the murder of hundreds of thousands in Iraq but he’s also credited as the chief ruiner of our political culture for the past 10 years. Who’s fault is it that our country is so polarized into Blue State Red State? The Left will blame Karl Rove for pushing Bush to embrace a strategy of rallying the base instead of uniting the middle.
Oh, and we can’t forget that Rove is basically the #1 person responsible for getting Bush elected and guiding his political victories. Unforgivable.
By now it should be obvious who #1 on the list will be…
