The other night April and I watched “From Paris with Love,” an action movie from the House of Luc Beson starring John Travolta and Jonathan Rhys Meyers.

I was eager to see the film because I adored director Pierre Morel’s two previous action extravaganzas — “District B13” and “Taken.” Both were some of the most exciting action films of the last 5 years.

“From Paris with Love” was quite a let-down, though. The action scenes did not have the grace, sophistication, clarity, and originality of “Distric B13t” or “Taken.” The film also lacked a strong lead character, like “Taken” possessed in Liam Neeson’s justice-driven father. Travolta played a crass, bad boy — almost a stereotype of the boorish, “ugly American” — who had a few amusing moments but by and large failed to deliver.

Skip this disappointment and instead rewatch “Distric B13t” and “Taken.”
