The New York Times Buries Congressman Etheridge’s Assault

Democrat Congressman Bob Etheridge (D-NC) attended a fundraiser headlined by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and had an unpleasant altercation.  Not with Pelosi or his fellow Democrats and the moneybag shadow Democrats, of course.  Rather, on the public sidewalk ouside the D.C. event, Etheridge ran into some individuals identifying themselves as students, one of whom had the nerve to ask him this question on camera:

Do you fully support the Obama agenda?

The poor, harassed congressman could not take the pressure from such intense questioning and, after repeatedly asking the young man whom he was, proceeded to grab the camera and then forcibly grabbed the young man by the hand, arm and neck.

How did the newspaper of record, the New York Times, handle this episode. Buried on the bottom of p.21, it carried the story under the headline “Congressman Apologizes After Tussle.”

Tussle is defined in the dictionary as “a physical contest or struggle.”  Here the physical encounter was all one-way – an elected Democratic official committing an assault and battery on a citizen exercising his First Amendment right in a public space.

More than half of the Times‘ brief story was devoted to  Etheridge’s apology and the conservative association of Andrew Breitbart, whose web site posted the video of the “tussle.”

Imagine the front-page headline in the New York Times and other ‘lamestream’ left-wing media had the reverse occurred.  If, say, a member of the Tea Party grabbed Congressman Etheridge or another Democratic congressman whom had simply asked the Tea-Partier a question, we would have been hearing non-stop about the violent right-wing on the verge of another Oklahoma City bombing.

Hypocrisy – thine name is the New York Times.
