The United Nations’ Anti-Semitism

The United Nations is pushing to launch yet another of its one-sided anti-Israel “investigations.” The goal is this time to rationalize its pre-determined conclusion that only Israel is to blame for the fatalities aboard the Turkish ship that was part of the ill-fated blockade-running Gaza flotilla. Pressure is also building on Israel to abandon its blockade of Hamas-controlled Gaza, of course without requiring any concessions from the Hamas terrorist regime.

Not since the UN General Assembly passed its infamous Resolution 3379, equating Zionism with racism in the mid 1970’s (which was repealed in 1991), have we witnessed the same high level of anti-Semitism at the UN as we have seen the last few years. I am not talking about reasoned analysis and criticism of Israeli government actions, judged against the same standards as the other 191 member states of the UN. No, I am talking about a constant stream of propaganda and hate intended to de-legitimize the Jewish state as akin to apartheid South Africa.

The UN Human Rights Council, which the Obama administration decided to join, has adopted more resolutions and decisions condemning the state of Israel than all other 191 UN member states combined.

In 2008, for example, Israel was subjected to a record 120 UN condemnations for alleged human rights violations. This was more than twice as many as its nearest “competitor,” Sudan, where the black population is being systematically wiped out by the Arab government and militia. Israel was subjected to seven times as many UN condemnations as Iran, where stoning of women, executions of political dissidents and homosexuals, and rampant discrimination against non-Muslims are a way of life.

Saudi Arabia—which forbids non-Islamic religious worship and strictly segregates men and women—received a meager fourteen condemnations (tied with Pakistan and Malaysia).

The UN has held several global conferences to combat racism – the most recent of which was held last year at the UN’s Geneva headquarters. They have invariably turned into hatefests condemning the very existence of a Jewish nation-state.

Israel was created as a Jewish homeland.  The United Nations – under whose auspices Israel was created as a Jewish state to live side-by-side with a Palestinian state – now observes the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People on November 29th.This date was not accidentally chosen: on this day in the year of 1947, the UN General Assembly approved its partition resolution.

Former UN Secretary General Kofi Annan called November 29th a “day of mourning and a day of grief.”  There is perhaps no better expression of the UN’s anti-Semitism than mourning its own virtuous act shortly after the end of World War II in helping to create the Jewish state from the ashes of the Holocaust.
