American Jews, and diaspora Jews, more generally, need to understand who our friends are and who they are not. Those who oppose Jewish self-determination and self-defense (AKA anti-Zionists) are not friends to the Jewish people and should be treated as such. Furthermore, people who always and forever spit poison at the Jewish state (AKA Israel Haters) are likewise not friends to the Jewish people and should also be treated as such.
Those of us who care about Israel, including Israel’s many non-Jewish supporters in the US, should refrain from holding other Israel supporters in contempt if they disagree politically. What we need are alliances that cross political boundaries. Israel is enduring an international campaign of vilification designed to undermine its legitimacy in preparation for its eventual dissolution. We are thus facing the greatest threat to the Jewish people since the Yom Kippur War in 1973. If the anti-Zionists and Israel haters, most of whom are on the Left, get their way we will see Israel destroyed as a Jewish State. This would likely result in a brutal civil war causing the deaths of God knows how many people, both Jewish and Arab.
In order to prevent this, supporters of Israel must be united. Liberal supporters of Israel should be treated as friends by those on the Right, just as conservative supporters of Israel should be treated as friends by those on the Left. We may disagree with one another, but should do so as friends and allies, not enemies. I may oppose, for example, many things about the Christian Evangelical movement, but I know who my friends are. Anyone who would put on this scene is, whatever else they may think on this or that issue, a friend:
So, go get ‘em, Caroline.
