Some Thoughts on the “Freedom” Flotilla

Michael van der Galien was born in the Dutch city of Leeuwarden in 1984. For as long as he can remember, he has been obsessed with the United States. When he was 17 years old, he started blogging - of course about America. His articles have been published at Big Hollywood, Pajamas Media, Hot Air (the GreenRoom) and Right Across The Atlantic. He's also an editor for the Dutch conservative blog, De Dagelijkse Standaard.

After Israelis rightfully fought back when they were attacked by so-called “peaceful protesters” on board of the now infamous Freedom Flotilla, Western progressives inside and outside the mainstream media cried foul. How could these aggressive and overbearing Israelis attack well-intentioned peace activists who only wanted to provide aid and comfort to “suffering” Palestinians in Gaza? It proved, they immediately said, that Israel does not want peace. No, all they want is to make the Palestinian people (most of whom are Jordanians, by the way) suffer as much as possible. Hence the United Nation’s “condemnation” of “Israel’s deadly raid.”

Although the above probably sounds logical and coherent to you if you’re a radical progressive anti-Semite lacking any kind of moral compass and suffering from (willful) blindness to reality, I’m afraid that the rest of us aren’t that easily fooled. When you look closer at the situation it becomes clear rather quickly that not Israel but the organizers are responsible for what happened. Their intentions were not even remotely honorable or peaceful. They wanted a scandal and when Israel didn’t take the bait, they attacked, thereby forcing Israel to react. When that happened, anti-Semites in the West quickly joined their Islamofascist friends in igniting a major media war against Israel.

When the “Freedom Flotilla” (more on its name later) set sail for Israel, Israel told the extremist organizers of this farce that they could deliver their goods to an Israeli harbor, from where they would be transported to Gaza by truck. In other words, it was not as if the Israelis didn’t want these products to reach Gaza. They even offered to help deliver them. The organizers, however, refused. After all, they didn’t want to help Gazans. All they wanted was to disgrace and humiliate Israel.

Speaking of the “Freedom Flotilla”: It’s a tremendous misnomer if ever there was one. Freedom has nothing to do with what these Islamists had in mind. This was nothing more than a pro-Hamas PR stunt. And if there’s one thing Hamas and their supporters do not care for it’s freedom. These extremists have taken their own people hostage and dream of committing a second holocaust. They don’t want everybody to live in harmony and in peace: they want to enslave, torture and kill those who dare disagree with their radical ideology, and they want to wipe Israel off the map.

It never ceases to amaze me that so many Westerners are so happy to condemn Israel and to hurl insults at the only true (ideological) ally we have in the Middle East. Israel is extremely westernized, it’s a democracy, it respects human rights, it’s one of our strongest and most vital allies in the War on Terror, yet so-called “progressives” are jumping all over themselves to condemn her. In Saudi Arabia, women are stoned to death if they dare disobey their husbands and fathers; in Iran, gays are publicly executed; in Syria, opponents of the Assad-regime are tortured to death. Yet Israel – with its freedom of speech, equality and democracy – is considered the pariah of the region and the enemy of mankind according to Western progressives.

The people behind the Genocide Flotilla (as I’d like to rename it) are known extremists. They sympathize with Hamas and even fund this terrorist organization. The only Westerners who don’t see through their latest stunt are antisemitic radical progressives who could care less about right or wrong, truth or lie, as long as they can humiliate Israel and trample on the very principles that form the foundation of Israeli and Western societies.
