For about a month, Keith Olbermann has basically been mailing it in, while Chris Matthews does most of the foaming at the mouth for MSNBC, and Rachel Maddow spins the Vast Right Wing Conspiracy stories.

The above, I suppose, could be considered an anti-Meltdown, as Keith relegates the Times Square bomber to something akin to Jay Leno’s “Stupid Criminals” bit.

OLBERMANN:  FBI agents today raiding half a dozen locations in the northeast as part of the investigation into the failed attempt to set off a bomb—or fireworks—in Times Square earlier this month…

Har-de-har-har.

Of course, Olbermann, Maddow, Matthews and Company didn’t spare the horses or the hyperbole when it came to trying to connect the violent Michigan Hutaree cult to the Tea Party, or going all the way back to Timothy McVeigh and connecting him to Rush Limbaugh…

Keith, however, hasn’t been the same lately.  Maybe this smackdown from Jon Stewart actually accomplished something?  Keith’s response was rather sheepish and tepid…

When I started this series, watching an episode of Countdown required a beer to counter the anger fueled adrenaline produced. Lately, it requires coffee to stay awake.
