One expects the lamestream media to stretch to find Abu Ghraib comparisons.  One does not expect it at NewsReal.  Today,  Stacy Webber took a fairly innocuous music parody of a Lady Gaga video made by troops in Afghanistan, and– without any specific reason for the charge– compared it to the prisoner abuse scandal.

Here are a few reasons to argue that is a ludicrously unfair charge:

  1. No force was involved in making the video, nor is any even SUGGESTED
  2. There is really no overt sexuality in the video, other than the vaguest suggestion of exaggerated dance moves
  3. The attitude in the video is unrelentingly cheerful and made in good fun

First, lets remind ourselves that troops stuck in remote outposts for long, mind-numbing lengths of time have a long tradition of performing in drag, as the above video– and countless WWII movies– illustrates.  Maybe Stacy needs to rent South Pacific

Second, I think someone sitting in the safety secured by the troops in the video she objects to needs a LOT more provocation than this before she should feel comfortable making the statement, “Get back to work people!!”

At least I’m pretty sure my meager contributions to the cause of liberty don’t qualify me to make such a loaded exhortation.
