As Jeff Hedgpeth noted, Lawrence O’Donnell on Countdown had a hissy fit over Sarah Palin’s Facebook target map, showing vulnerable Democrat seats.  But he was not the only media or liberal (redundant, I know) voice to try to fan hysteria over this– he was just one of the few to try to expand it to a whole 5 teary minute segment.

But anyone who has covered politics, much less worked in them—and O’Donnell and Chris Matthews have done both—knows that “target” is how every heavily contested seat is described by both parties.

Of course, this was part of the effort to paint anyone who opposes Obama as violent extremists, so O’Donnell and Matthews both carefully used weasel words like “in this political climate” to try to avoid looking like complete jokes.  Of course, their hysteria focused on the fact that Palin used crosshairs on her graphic.

So perhaps Matthews and O’Donnell et al, can explain how using “Behind Enemy Lines” and bullseyes in the middle of a war published on the DLC website in 2004 was somehow morally superior to Palin’s graphic?
