Don’t Cry for David Frum

Posted on March 27 2010 5:47 pm
David Forsmark is the owner and president of Winning Strategies, a full service political consulting firm in Michigan. David has been a regular columnist for Frontpage Magazine since 2006. For 20 years before that, he wrote book, movie and concert reviews as a stringer for the Flint Journal, a midsize daily newspaper.

All of the  calling for conservative self-examination in the wake of David Frum’s leaving the American Enterprise Institute is a bit absurd.  Frum has spent the last year being mostly a reflexive contrarian, doing his best to be the Media’s Favorite Republican by tearing down other Republicans.

His business plan doesn’t seem to have worked very well for him.  Boo-hoo.

Today, John Guardiano writes:

Of course, no one expected conservatives to respond with indifference, given what this brouhaha quite clearly says about the state of the conservative movement in America.

Well color me indifferent.  It’s not that Frum broke from orthodoxy, or had maverick views that bothers me.  David Frum treated Rush Limbaugh, Sarah Palin and Glenn Beck with contempt dripping with condescension.  He tried to drum them out of the reasonable conservative movement.  He wanted the rest of us to, like him, say “We are better than those low-brow goons.”  In his debate with David Horowitz, he constantly mischaracterized David’s arguments on his blog.

He also hasn’t found much of an audience– though MSNBC loves him this week.  So, whether he left because AEI could no longer pay him, as some reports state, or whether he was forced out because AEI finally tired of his act… I don’t care.

Just don’t ask me to treat him with any more respect than he is treating people who actually matter in the conservative movement.
