Rep. Bart Stupak (D-Mich.) canceled a planned press conference Saturday morning on abortion, fueling speculation about whether new abortion restrictions would be added to the healthcare bill.
Stupak’s office confirmed that the Michigan centrist, who opposes abortion rights, would cancel an 11 a.m. press availability in which he was expected to discuss his efforts to append restrictions to the healthcare bill before the House that would have curtailed the extent to which federal funds could subsidize the purchase of insurance plans which cover abortion.
