Colorado is again in the headlines as the site of origin for jihad activities. Since I live here, I’m wondering what gives with all this jihad business being exported from the Rocky Mountain State.
Jamie Paulin-Ramirez (pictured above), an American convert to Islam, has been arrested and released from custody in Ireland in connection with a conspiracy to murder Swedish artist Lars Vilks. Why would Muslims target Vilks, you ask. He published a cartoon in 2007, depicting Muhammad’s head on a dog’s body – and infuriated Muslims sufficiently to initiate plans for the artist’s demise.
Over at JihadWatch the incomparable Robert Spencer has a unique take on the issue. His complete posting is here.
The Denver Post’s Mike McPhee has the story here:
“A Leadville woman is in custody in Ireland, arrested as part of an investigation into a conspiracy to kill a Swedish cartoonist who made fun of the Prophet Mohammed, according to her family and Leadville police.
Jamie Paulin-Ramirez, 31, was arrested Tuesday in Waterford, Ireland, the second American woman to be grabbed in an apparent plot to kill the Swede, who incited the Muslim community with anger after his parody cartoons.
The other woman is Colleen R. LaRose, 46, of suburban Philadelphia, known on the Internet as “JihadJane.” She also remains in custody…”
In an updated story from AP, Paulin-Ramirez has been released from custody. Her mother gave AP a statement:
“…It came out of left field,” Christine Mott said. “I knew she was talking to these people online… What caused her to turn her back on her country, on her family and become this person? I don’t know how or why. All I know is she was in contact with this Jihad Jane…”
What a mystery it is, huh? Well, I have an idea. Grab some popcorn, get comfy, click on the next link and take some time to watch this movie for free: It’s all about the “I” word.
Meanwhile, I’m beginning to wonder if there’s something odd in the air out here in the Rocky Mountains. Colorado has spawned two recent arrestees in major Muslim murder plots - airport shuttle driver Najibullah Zazi, and nursing student Jamie Paulin-Ramirez - both with connections to Colleen LaRose, AKA Jihad Jane.
Or is it Islam that’s the problem? Nah. Couldn’t be. It’s gotta be the air.
