It is obvious you don't know what you're talking about. Government can be a force for good, but it usually isn't. Check out the track record of anything the government gets involved in; The Post Office, Amtrak,
Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid; all running deficits and essentially bankrupt. If they represented
the private sector, they would have gone bankrupt a long time ago; unless they were bailed out with
more tax payor dollars. A legitimate government gets its power from the consent of the governed. If
you don't see that, then you live in La-la land.

I caught a bit of David Horowitz's talk on C-Span about his book concerning his daughter's life and death. I found it very touching, compassionate and insightful. Not being a fan of David's social and political views I was surprised to find much sympathy for his talk. I now find it all the more puzzling to reconcile this David with the extreme right-wing, anti 'social justice' and corporatist David. I ascribe it to his overreaction to the extreme and obsessive leftist activities of his youth. His views about the intolerable leftist college takeover and his support for all the rightwing anti-government antics is illogical in the extreme. Given the worldwide intellectual history of the last hundred years how can anyone expect academics and their students to be anything but progressive and radical. Contrary to conservative views government can be and has been a force for good and it's obvious to every objective person that conservative and other rightwingers have been doing everything possible to delegitimitize government. At any rate, I do appreciate the way in which he handled a very difficult relationship with his daughter and the outstanding book he wrote about her life.
