What do you mean by “contiguous,” Joe?

Vice-president Joe Biden, dubbed by Rush Limbaugh as “Dumbest Man in the Senate,” met with Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas in Ramallah this week. Biden said,

Our administration is fully committed to the Palestinian people and to achieving a Palestinian state that is independent, viable, and contiguous.

The definition of contiguous is “Sharing an edge or boundary; touching. 2. Neighboring; adjacent. 3. a. Connecting without a break as in the phrase ‘The 48 contiguous states.’”

Here is a current map of Israel and the Palestinian territories:

Note that Gaza and the West Bank are not contiguous.

In order to achieve a Palestinian state that is contiguous, either the Israelis or the Palestinians will have to give up territory. Think the Israelis will cough up a corridor between Gaza and the West Bank?

I don’t think so either.

Think the Palestinians will give up Gaza, their only access to the Mediterranean Sea?

Nope.

So what do they have to talk about?
