Japan was not considered and agressor because they were a different race, Japan was
considered and agressor because they attacked other Nations and America killing with
abandon and loving it where ever they went. Jason you need to read the biographies of
American service men, the Japaneese people were bred to be cruel and uncaring at the
time of WWII, their service people were treated cruely so as to pass it on, get a correct view
of history......................William

When the Japanese attacked, much of the world was ruled by European powers. Perhaps Japan was simply copying the west in some ways. However, Japan is considered the aggressor because they are are of a different race.

I agree the Japanese were cruel but the idea of conquering nations isn't foreign to England or America.

Mr. Heron as I called him as a kid delivering papers was truly one of the most incredible people I have ever known. I had the privilege to march in several parades with him as a little league baseball player and I never saw his scars...i just saw a true American Hero. I myself do not want to see his memory obliterated by Hollywood.

I fought in VietNam, my father in WW2, and grandfather in WW1...Hanks is so wrong, and I think hurtful to the American people. However, it seems that his movie gives great thanks and praise to the soldiers. But one cannot feel that life means little to the generals and politicians.

NOT the time for yet another round of seen-to-death, anachonistic WWII retreads ---with or without
PC after-trimmings.

However, IT VERY, VERY MUCH IS THE TIME to be rigorously outting and unflinchingly examining
the gargantuan, record shattering legacy of genocide on the part of Hollywood's 'fave' creditor
and mass market realm ---years AFTER WWII ------ACROSS the Pacific ----esp. on this, the
60th Anniversary or the epic and STILL unfolding Korean War...

(My comments in parenthesis) See the show (I did), It honors the courage and horrors these men faced. In a group of young men you'll have all kinds, but I think Tom portrays the guys with respect (He does). You can and would be correct to say the war was motivated by Japan's ruthless thirst for natural resources, but you would also be correct to say that a lot of these conflicts come from mankind's tendency to divide people into two categories: US and THEM. Men can do a lot of bad things to THEM especially when it is in the best interest of US (Damn right! They attacked us an others, and if someone had to go away dead, I'd rather that it be US than THEM. That's pretty much the goal in war, isn't it?). Tom Hanks likes to focus more on the soldier than the conflict I actually think Tom Hanks WAS speaking more in the total sense of the word different and not just race. (No, he was CLEARLY speaking in the context in race, because, you see, in today's Politically-Correct society - a Stalin-coined phrase, by the way - the quickest way to cut off all discussion is to say or imply that someone is a racist. It's tantamount to calling someone a communist back in the 1950's. His comment was intended to impugn the way Americans fought the Japanese...of course, he was looking at the situation through his warped, PC, 2010 eyes!) The Japanese weren't Americans (Really?). This obvious fact is what distinguished a man you had to kill from a man you didn't. There was racial tension in this conflict, and the show depicts it with understanding. (Oooops, we're supposed to stop the discussion here. You just implied the Americans were possibly racist, so you win. End of discussion) Tom Hanks doesn't sit on a high chair and condemn any man as a bad man for feeling it. (Damn right. Different time. Different circumstances. Fortunately for America, a different objective than we would have today!) It's a shame men have those feelings and that we can't embrace our enemies as friends instead of fight them. ("Can't we all just get along?" It's just so simple!) If you want to hate him for wishing we could all get along, then go ahead. (I don't hate him. I just think he's delusional!) Go ahead and hate our heroes in the wars we fight right now too, because I believe most, if not all, wish man didn't have to kill man and that we could all be as brothers. (OMG! I also wish everyone were healthy, and rich, and beautiful, and funny, and.....well, you see how silly your comments are!)

I think wars are stupid, but sometimes they are necessary, Most Americans wanted to stay out of the war and probably would have , if the Japanese hadn't pull their sneak attack. Tom, I think you need to read a really good history book and stay away form Hollywood revised history.

It is no secret that the Hollywood dunces are not intellectuals. They are told what to do, what to say, how to say it and how to move while saying it. When left to themselves, that total direction leaves them clueless as to what has happened in our world. Stick to the movies, Tom.
