I have just finished reading two books which have just recently been reprinted:

1. The Theory of Money & Credit, Ludwig von Mises

2. The Mystery of Banking, Murray N. Rothbard

Mystery covers pretty much the same theory as Money & Credit and is easier to comprehend. It's an excellent book if you want to understand money and how banking works -- subjects of vital importance especially in today's "Alice in Wonderland" world.

In the Mises book I highly recommend everyone read section 1 of chapter 1 of Part Four, Monetary Reconstruction. It is historical rather than theoretical, hence easier to read. It explains the central role sound money had in the transition from the arbitrary rule of kings and despots to the relative liberty of the past several centuries. It brings tears to your eyes to see how Western Civilization has squandered that legacy.
