What a Massa

Congressman Eric Massa, whose resignation will be effective later today, is hitting the air waves and making some incredible accusations.

“I am showering, naked as a jaybird, and here comes Rahm Emanuel, not even with a towel wrapped around his tush, poking his finger in my chest, yelling at me.”

This, as he described, was just one of the many heated encounters with the president’s Chief of Staff, Rahm Emanuel over Massa’s refusal to get on board with the Democratic health care legislation.  In this particular incident, Massa claims there was no reason for Emanuel to be at the congressional gym, but only for the purpose of intimidating members of Congress.

Amidst the salacious details, Massa alleges that he was targeted early on after voting against both the cap-and-trade and first health care bills.  He claims Democrats pressed the ethics issue which precipitated his resignation, but that it was blown out of proportion.  He also accused House Majority Lead, Steny Hoyer of blatantly lying by discussing the ethics charges in advance of a full investigation and telling the press that he directed Massa to report the allegations to the House Ethics Committee back in early February.

“Steny Hoyer has never said a single word to me at all. Ever. Not once.”

Massa also spoke about the incident which spawned all the controversy. He recounts that at the wedding of one of his aides he made an inappropriate joke:

“A staff member made an intonation to me that maybe I should be chasing after the bridesmaid. His points were clear, and his words were far more colorful than that. And I grabbed the staff member sitting next to me and I said, ‘What I really ought to be doing is frakking you,’ and then tossled the guy’s hair and left…”

Massa believes Democrats used the incident to force him out and “ram” the health care bill “down the country’s throat.” Massa’s sentiment toward the bill is almost indistinguishable from that of  Republicans, believing that Congress should start over.  He has hinted in some of his interviews that he might rescind his resignation, however, it is unclear if that is even possible.  The only thing certain is that the embattled, 1st-term congressman is livid with Democratic leadership and is on the rampage.

All of these revelations are are quite astounding to me, personally.  Massa represents my home district in Upstate NY and one of his top aides is an old schoolmate of mine.  No insider details to report at this time, however.
