Obama, Free Markets, and Alinsky

In a recent speech to business leaders President Obama said the following:

“Contrary to the claims of some of my critics, I am an ardent believer in the free market.”

Since President Obama’s philosophy is rooted in his community organizer training, which is based on the teachings of Saul Alinsky, we must ask ourselves whether Alinsky and an ardent belief in free markets can truly be reconciled.

David Horowitz describes Alinsky’s economic philosophy in the following way:

Alinsky maintained that radicals, finding themselves “adrift in the stormy sea of capitalism,” sought “to advance from the jungle of laissez-faire capitalism to a world worthy of the name of human civilization. They hope for a future,” he said, “where the means of production will be owned by all of the people instead of just a comparative handful.”  In short, they wanted socialism.

The Obama Administration continues its use of Alinsky tactics but does Obama also subscribe to the economic theories of Saul Alinsky? The President professes a belief in free markets, but GM, Chrysler, GMAC, attempts to socialize medicine, and the massive bailouts would seem to belie his words.

Mr. President, your actions are speaking so loudly that we can’t hear a word you’re saying.
