Why is Conor Powell Wearing a Keffiyeh?

2010 February 20

Note to Fox News: People don’t like seeing their news correspondents wearing overt symbols of genocidal intentions like the keffiyeh which I have now seen Conor Powell wear on Fox & Friends and Special Report with Bret Baier.  It is as appropriate, and it makes as much sense, as a White House correspondent sporting a swastika.  In the future, I would suggest not dressing your correspondents up like murderers.

Why, Fox?  Is the goal to be as offensive as MSNBC?  Remember that they actually fired Geraldo for being an idiotic war correspondent.  Even they have some standards.

Besides, if anyone should wear the keffiyeh at Fox News it’s their resident useful-idiot Hamas lover, Reena Ninan.

He's in Afghanistan, which makes it even more stupid. It's not even an Arab country.

Look, the keffiyeh has been a fairly standard wardrobe addition for US troops during both Gulf War I and now Operation Iraqi Freedom. If you haven't noticed that, you're blind. That's who Conor Powell is mimicing: the US Soldiers around him. Concessionaires sell them in the PX. There's no anti-Semitism to it; and to suggest there is sounds a bit 'loony left' to me. Is it practical? Serves the same purpose of a scarf and muffler against the sun, wind, sand and Winter cold. Yes, and it lends one a bit of local. color, not unlike T.E. Lawrence in full Arab regalia. Like an eco-tourist wearing a safari jacket. Anti-Israeli? Nazi references? Get a life. You toss those terms around like Olbermann shouting, "Racists!".
