"...and that Washington DC gets a few more feet of snow this winter."

I live in a suburb of Maryland close to the District.
As I write this the weather service has informed us that a front will move in tomorrow evening and before it leaves it will deposit some 3"-5" of snowfall.

Help us, please!

It is an interesting tactic to change from Global Warming(a measurable metric) to Climate Change(a nebulous term that can mean what the theorist says it means) it is similar from changing from this is how it is to this is how I believe it is. As we closer examine the result of blending science and politics(see Eugenics, Übermensch, and Phrenology of African Americans) we understand why people like Dr. William Grey never subscribed to the frantic calls for mass regulation. I just watched the movie Brazil and found it interesting that the both the left and right are haunted by specters of totalitarian regimes while simultaneously rushing headlong towards installing one(read Patriot Act, Obamacare, et al.)

I think we should start referring to "climate change" or "global warming" or whatever new name they've tried to use this week (just like Creationists tried "Creation Science" and "Intelligent Design") by what it has become: Political Global Warming. It doesn't even qualify as a religion, as religion has redemption and salvation as an ultimate goal (I'm pretty much an atheist myself, BTW). Political Global Warming requires a complete suspension of rational thought processes, which qualifies it as a cult, at best. But hysterical (I love the historical linguistic syntax of that particular term) earth-firstsers are probably too emotional to grasp the fine differences between scientific criticism and ad-hominem attacks, as that is their preferred method of debate.

In general, over the course of the last 4.5 billion years that this planet has been in existence, the trend has been toward global cooling - and it will continue that way for the next few billion years until solar physics rears it's neither ugly nor beautiful head, our sun burns up it's fuel supply and the next stage of it's lifespan commences, in which it will swell toward becoming a nova, completely engulfing the inner planets, which will continue to orbit within the Sun's corona as burned out cinders. At which point the lefties will then say "See? See? We WERE right!!" And then they'll blame George Bush and Rush Limbaugh.

Let's face it. If global weather were to level off--neither high nor low with negligible changes, the headline would read: "Stagnant static weather patterns: more evidence of global warming." Never argue with a fanatic or legions of the undead. In either case you can't win.

Uh, Nick, you need to look at history. The Middle Ages warm period was at least as warm as now, if now warmer (after all they were growing grapes in Greenland!). The thing is climate does change, it always had and it always will. It is affected by many things, not the least of which is the sun. We have no influence over the solar events and right now the sun is pretty darn quiet, hence all the cooling. The bottom line is that science, real science, is still learning and researching. Science is never settled, if it real science.

And, before you write me off, let me add - I believe it is in the best interest of all to take good care of our planet. It's the only one we have.

btw - the political hogwash you added at the end was pretty silly...unless you're someone who has actually had a paycheck signed by a poor person. Seriously...the rich are rich by and large because they took risks and invested their earnings into companies that they want to grow. That means more jobs. If they get to keep more of the money they earn, they'll invest more into their companies and the will mean even more jobs.

Good for you is right MRS. WEBBER (take pride in that marital status lady)! Excellent observation on GW Gangsters....just another fleecing of those that actually work for a living. I am in the energy business and no other industry uses more of its product to make lives better for all citizens around the world (not mention good paying jobs). I am in the petrochem refineries, bio refineries, the solar plants, the natural gas upstream/downstream facilities, coal plants, et al and NOTHING goes to waste....their emissions are essentially what every carbon based life form emits during their existence.....IT IS A BY PRODUCT OF LIVING! Just because someone believes that the GW is a hoax (as much of the peer review is showing - not to mention common sense), DOES NOT MEAN THEY ARE AGAINST A MORE "GREEN" PATH FORWARD OR A SEARCH FOR NEW, MORE EFFICIENT ENERGY SOURCES, in fact quite to the contrary. Keep up the observations and stripping the mask off of these barnacles on the rear of real progress- and by that I mean those Mountain Avenue livin', Suburu drivin', "medical" marijuana smokin', no kids havin', anti-God spewin', wanna-be greenies....God bless you Mrs. Webber

"Obsessive focus on details of scientific reports that can't be easily understood by non-scientists is a red herring"

Interesting... So now the 'narrative' has changed from "You don't cite peer reviewed studies!" to scientific reports are red herrings.
