Michael van der Galien was born in the Dutch city of Leeuwarden in 1984. For as long as he can remember, he has been obsessed with the United States. When he was 17 years old, he started blogging - of course about America. His articles have been published at Big Hollywood, Pajamas Media, Hot Air (the GreenRoom) and Right Across The Atlantic. He's also an editor for the Dutch conservative blog, De Dagelijkse Standaard.

Caro Emerald, performing a polka remake of Lady Gaga’s Bad Romance, live for Dutch radio. This video first went viral in the Netherlands and has now also caught on in the United States, with Perez Hilton – of all people – publishing it at his heavily trafficked website.

Her first album – she thought she’d make a career as a background singer,  not as a lead singer – was released last month and immediately became number one on the Dutch music charts.

If you Google her name, you can see that Dutch media (and the Dutch people) are big fans of Emerald and proud that Americans know who she is as well now.
