Joe Biden in Wonderland

I am very optimistic about Iraq. I mean, this could be one of the great achievements of this administration—Vice President Joe Biden.

Bumbling Joe Biden congratulating himself and the administration of Barack  Obama this week for a job well done in Iraq, due primarily to the success of the troop surge?

This is the same Joe Biden who, you will recall, had this to say about the surge back in 2007:

Joe Biden: I mean, the truth of the matter is that, that the — America’s — this [Bush’s] administration’s policy and the surge are a failure, and that the surge, which was supposed to stop sectarian violence and — long enough to give political reconciliation, there’s been no political reconciliation… The reality is that, although there has been some mild progress on the security front, there is, in fact, no, no real security in Baghdad and/or in Anbar province, where I was, dealing with the most serious problem, sectarian violence. Sectarian violence is as strong and as solid and as serious a problem as it was before the surge started.

Amazing. Biden, who had practically written Iraq off as a failed, ungovernable state (going as far as to suggest that it be divided, like Gaul, into three parts), is now taking credit for everything he previously opposed!

As if this weren’t bad enough, Biden and Obama are delving further into historical revisionism by also taking credit for being the architects of the pending withdrawal of American troops, an event that was actually negotiated by the Bush administration long before Obama came to power!

Joe Biden: You’re going to see 90,000 American troops come marching home by the end of the summer. You’re going to see a stable government in Iraq that is actually moving toward a representative government.

Not one nod to Bush.

Not one ounce of shame.
