I just find it funny that breaking this record somehow proves that warming is happening, whereas when the old record was set, it was just weather.

Ah, everything proves it, I guess.....

The average temperature of the Earth is lowering and not going up and the argument is becoming
inane. We are all subject to the weather if we like it or not but we do not have to be taken in
by those who devise not so clever scams to take us for our hard earned cash which we will
need to heat our homes as it gets colder and colder. Government has failed to protect the
public from big time scams and has become and agency of deceit and fraud. Let Washington
enjoy its warm weather. There may be a third blizzard on the way................now is that a mean tought.

Unfortunately, Rush is wrong. IF the average surface temperature of the earth is increasing, this does not mean that it will not become colder in some places. An increase (or decrease) in average global temperature will change weather patterns. Unusual, local cold conditions do not refute "global warming," just as unusual, local warm conditions do not support it. The AVERAGE temperature of the earth is not, by definition, about LOCAL conditions.

That being said, there is no evidence that human activity is affecting climate either way, and that means there's no sense in doing ANYTHING to halt climate change. Climate change is a natural process and we have been on the planet for too little time to percieve the earth's climate as anything but fairly stable. Geo-scientist know better.

First we get East Anglia, then the sputter on the glaciers, then the WWF environwackos story about the rain forest --- BUT, those who can see the BILLIONS of dollars/euro that they can steal from an unsuspecting public and the "watermelon reds" who can just taste the power they could grab under worldwide Cap and Trade taxes are doing the best they can in damage control. It hasn't dawned on they yet that the party is over, and nobody with any sense believes their line anymore.
