Sports Editor Seeks Reparations … For Planned Parenthood
Incensed by the completely innocuous Tim Tebow Super Bowl commercial, sports editor Dave Zirin blogged his fury at The Nation yesterday. He admits the ad was “about as vanilla as an Andy Williams Christmas Special.” But it’s not the actual content of the ad that angers Zirin.
It’s the pesky free speech.
He’s infuriated that CBS would even consider offering a platform to Focus on the Family, an organization Zirin says has “shadowy connections to to open hate groups.” He believes allowing Focus on the Family to pay for “this kind of a mammoth public forum is an absolute disgrace.”
So what’s his solution?
Zirin insists CBS execs should have to make amends for their complicity in advancing the pro-life agenda. “They should offer free commercial time to Planned Parenthood,” he proposes.
Not content to end his attack on free speech by seeking reparations for a group that wasn’t wronged in any way, Zirin closes on an even more dramatic note. “Somewhere, Edward R. Murrow weeps.”
Perhaps, Mr. Zirin, but not for the reasons you think.

What dark and twisted corner of the universe must one lurk in order to perceive “shadowy connections to open hate groups.” And what the heck is an open hate group anyway? As opposed to a covert hate group perhaps? Like maybe, uh, liberal Democrats?
Doesn't Soros run an open hate group? Oh, wait, that's the Open Society Institute, my mistake.
hate group is any group that you hate…ahahahah….truth is sometimes simple.
This clearly reveals how insane the pro-baby killers truly are.
They are the first instigators of quashing freedom of speech and should be called out on that fact.
I am just starting to read Jonah Goldberg's "Liberal Fascists" for the second time. This silliness is an exellent example. I'm not sure what the word "vanilla" means in this sorry article. As an American of African descent I am acutely aware of the millions of black women who have abortions.
I am also aware of Margaret Sanger's views of my people and her solution to the problem she felt we presented.
Planned Parenthood is right up there with the "safe schools" Czar in wanting to sexualize children at a young age, the better to increase their abortion revenue.

Dave Zirin….Get a Life…or perhaps sports serves you better. Either way it seems you are "out of your league!" Listening to your ilk about this free speech crap and Planned Parenthood and Focus on the Family is boring. SO WHAT if the Super Bowl/CBS ran the ad…Planned Parenthood could have done something. They didn't, so shut up! I bet if you didn't listen to all the "pot-stirring" garbage from PP prior to the Super Bowl and then you saw the ad, you wouldn't have had a clue as to what the ad was all about….unless of course you are in the same league as the NWO. Get a life…stick to sports.
