Michael van der Galien was born in the Dutch city of Leeuwarden in 1984. For as long as he can remember, he has been obsessed with the United States. When he was 17 years old, he started blogging - of course about America. His articles have been published at Big Hollywood, Pajamas Media, Hot Air (the GreenRoom) and Right Across The Atlantic. He's also an editor for the Dutch conservative blog, De Dagelijkse Standaard.

Two things that have to happen when an economic crisis hits:
1. Less spending
2. Taxes have to be cut
3. The power of unions has to be reduced
4. Deficits can no longer be accepted

The above is what most credible economists would tell you. For some strange reason, however, many voters and politicians continue to support plans that amount to the exact opposite. Frankly, it’s a sure sign to me that many, many voters simply don’t think much about politics, they don’t think things through. Or am I being too negative?
