Scott Brown, the Senator-Elect of Massachusetts, will be officially seated today at 5 p.m. Brown was scheduled to officially start his abbreviated term as U.S. Senator on Feb. 11. However, when he was informed of key votes that would happen before that date, he demanded to be seated immediately.
A letter from his lawyers explained Brown’s demand:
“While Senator-elect Brown had tentatively planned to be sworn into office February 11, he has been advised that there are a number of votes scheduled prior to that date, For that reason, he wants certification to occur immediately. As he is the duly elected United States Senator from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, he is entitled to be seated now.”
Brown is taking over the Senate seat that Ted Kennedy held for 47 years.
