Media Matters Defends Leahy’s Drunken Speech on Senate Floor

Last Thursday, apparently still celebrating the Bringer of Light’s first State of the Union address from the night before, Senator Patrick Leahy (D-VT) stumbled onto the Senate floor, clung to the podium for balance, and proceeded to rant about, well, something…for three minutes and thirty seconds over his time limit.

According to Media Matters, Leahy’s inebriated rant last Thursday morning only occurred in Mark Levin’s head. They also smeared the Fox Nation for embedding the video of Leahy’s speech from C-SPAN and reporting, completely without commentary, that Levin suggested that Leahy might have been drunk.

Typical of Media Matters, author E.H.H.’s post is laden with indignance at the mere asking of the verboten question of whether Leahy was drunk (since there is simply no way to spin it as racism, Media Matters’ old logic-bypassing fallback). Clearly, having wondered the same about the absolutely lit Max Baucus (who is far and away the more fun and the more amusing of the two drunk-on-the-job Democrat senators) is a major thought crime. Since Media Matters did not see fit to ask the reader to decide for himself and instead opted to smear everyone who has seen the video, I will actually embed the video and invite the reader to make up his own mind. In fact, I won’t even judge you, dear reader, for whatever conclusion you may reach. I may, however, gently suggest a visit to an audiologist and a new eyeglasses prescription to those who think Leahy was not drunk.

  • The first video is Mark Levin’s take on Leahy’s drunk speech.
  • The second video is Leahy’s full speech, which is sort of sad at first, then just really boring.
  • The third video is Mark Levin slamming Leahy for being drunk on the Senate floor last July.
  • The fourth video is Leahy’s drunk speech on the Senate floor from July 13, 2009.

No, this is not the first time Leahy has done this.

Quite frankly, I find it reassuring that whatever the Democrats are doing behind closed (and locked) doors, they are probably not very productive. I also find it hypocritical of Leahy to start a War on Soft Drinks as he downs the hair of the dog in the Senate.
