Leftist Academics Lash Out At Beck Documentary

Left-wing academics are snickering at Glenn Beck’s Friday documentary, “The Revolutionary Holocaust.”

In the documentary Beck’s argument as I interpret it is that too many Americans admire leftist totalitarian mass murderers and too many Americans don’t know about the horrors these merciless killers have inflicted on humanity. This tolerance of brutal leftist monsters allows today’s progressives, whose ideas have the same intellectual pedigree as communism and fascism, to get away with murder, so to speak. In other words, this permissive environment allows left-wingers to openly flaunt their admiration of brutal mass murderers such as Che Guevara and Mao Zedong without getting called on it. This failure to challenge these ugly misanthropic ideas in a sense confers a degree of respectability on leftism in general.

But academics will have none of this.

Alan Wolfe, director of the Boisi Center for Religion and American Life at Boston College, said that the film not only isn’t accurate, but that Beck “lives in a complete alternative universe.”

Clemson University history professor Steven Marks, author of How Russia Shaped the Modern World, said that while Beck isn’t drawing a straight line between left-wing totalitarian regimes of the past and today’s liberals, that’s what “he’s hinting at here.”

“‘No one in their right mind is going to defend Stalin or Mao or Che Guevara,’ Marks said. ‘The implication is that this is what’s going to happen if Democrats get their way. This is just a complete lie.'”

Well, actually, no, Professor Marks: The Obama administration is filled with admirers of leftist totalitarians who defend these killers.

Anita Dunn, who was President Obama’s White House communications director until recently, is a huge admirer of Mao Zedong, as is Ron Bloom, the president’s manufacturing czar (shown in screen grab at top of this blog post).

And don’t forget Van Jones, the former green jobs czar who described himself as a communist.

People like these are helping to set the Obama administration’s agenda and we’re not supposed to be worried?
