My guess is that these factors, along with the stupid mistakes made in both of Bush the Younger's terms (which were only won because the Democrats couldn't muster up anything other than Gore and Kerry, and those idiots came dangerously close to being elected anyway), certainly had everything to do with Buckley jumping ship. If the Repulican Party wishes to win another election, they need to get smarter about who they nominate. Otherwise, there's only going to be more Obama types, because some people would rather jump ship than to watch the Republican Party destroy itself as it has over the last two decades.

Wow. I'm a little late to the angry dismemberment, obviously based on the ideologies of the commenters, but why would Christopher Buckley need to follow in father's footsteps? While I wouldn't have endorsed either McCain nor Obama, it's certainly understandable exactly why he chose Obama. We can start with the stupid decision to nominate Bush the Elder over Jack Kemp, which made no sense at all. I left the Republican Party after that blunder, you could see all of this coming from way back then. When Bush the Elder fails (in oh so many ways), Clinton is elected. Anyone remember what happened to Bob Dole? Dole was wonderful until he actually started to campaign, and then he turned into what McCain turned into when McCain ran. Angry, venomous, and blatantly unelectable. Pain as his running mate pretty much sealed that victory for Obama.

He voted for O based on O's temperament. I question C. Buckley's discernment.

If Christopher fell far from the tree it was on his head. I always admired his dad Bill who I
consider one of the best conservative minds ever. Big shoes for a son to try to fit into if at
all possible. For his fathers sake I wish him well and the bump on the head, I hope it
cleared his thinking.

People like Buckley, Noonan, Parker and Brooks voted for Obama because of white guilt, racism and slavery They thought that by voting for a black man for president they would never be called racists again.Well, my ancestors lived in Plymouth.MA and Little Compton,RI during the early sixteen hundreds, and they owned slaves. Do I feel guilty that my ancestors owned slaves? Hell no!!

Kathleen Parker is another phony. Brooks is not a Republican and not a conservative and Frum needs his meds. The other one I became sick of is Dame Peggy Noonan. I think Obama gave her the big O.

To paraphrase the Buckley who really WAS a genius: I'd rather be governed by the first 12 people in the Wasila phone book than by Chris Buckley, David Frum, David Brooks, or Kathleen Parker.

Chrisopher is an elitest plutocratic snob and it is soley on that social class mentality that he voted for Obama. To make excuses for his support is absurd. If the 2012 elections were held tomorrow with the Palin running against Obama, he would vote the very same way. . We have plenty of rinos to worry about. Why bother with this political wastrel.
