President Obama spoke to a 6th grade class at Graham Road Elementary School in Falls Church, VA on January 19th about his plans for more school grants:
WASHINGTON – President Obama said yesterday he is seeking more money for education in his budget to improve test scores and help students succeed in an increasingly competitive global economy.
“Offering our children an outstanding education is one of our most fundamental – perhaps our most fundamental – obligation as a country,’’ the president said at an elementary school in the Washington suburb of Falls Church, Va. “It will shape our future as a nation.’’
Obama said he’s proposing putting $1.35 billion in his fiscal 2011 budget for the Race to the Top program, in which states compete for grants. The plan rewards states that make the most progress in raising academic standards, boosting teacher quality, tracking student gains, and improving failing schools”
The kicker? (besides the incompetency shown, once again, in his plans to spend another $1.35 Billion that we don’t have) Lo and behold, his trusty teleprompter came with him.
That’s right. The Smartest Man Alive ™ can’t speak to elementary schoolchildren without a study aide. Math is hard and so is speaking extemporaneously, apparently, even to children.
Perhaps Obama should start trying to improve education by beginning in the White House.
