“La Revolution mange ses enfants.” The Revolution devours her children. This is true not only of those who willingly nourish her with their own lives, but also those offspring who choose to renounce her and face a life of gnawing loneliness and consuming remorse.

One man who realized the evil nature of Communism and abandoned the Party was Whittaker Chambers. After years of spying for Russia and establishing activist cells in the United States, Chambers spent his life trying to expose former colleagues who had infiltrated the government and to draw the country’s attention to its peril.

His book Witness begins with a letter to his children.

“The revolutionary heart of Communism is not the theatrical appeal: ‘Workers of the world, unite.’ It is a simple statement of Karl Marx…’It is necessary to change the world.’ The power of Communists, whose nature baffles the rest of the world, because in a large measure the rest of the world has lost that power, is the power to hold convictions and to act on them. Communists are that part of mankind which has recovered the power to live or die for its faith. It is not a new faith. It is man’s second oldest faith…whispered under the Tree, ‘Ye shall be as gods.’ It is the great alternative faith of mankind. Communist vision is the vision of Man without God…by the sole force of his rational intelligence redirecting man’s destiny and reorganizing man’s life and the world. Communism restores man to his sovereignty by the simple method of denying God.”

Glenn Beck’s masterful, “The Revolutionary Holocaust” illustrated perfectly how the great monsters of the Leftist Revolution possessed this heart of Communism defined by Chambers, the conviction that “the world must be changed,” changed, of course, according to the Marxist doctrine.

The most striking characteristic shared by Hitler, Stalin, and Mao was their utter disregard for human life, the lives of any who either opposed their renovation of the world, or were “unfit” to contribute to the new order.

There is always a danger when watching footage of mass murder of millions while sitting in the comfort and safety of our homeland, the danger is the illusion of immunity. A fascinating excerpt from Radical Son introduces readers to a common occurrence in Mr. Horowitz’s childhood, his parents’ meetings with Communist friends:

“Their real politics were conducted far from view, in the neighborhood cell meetings of the Communist Party. It was in this subterranean activity that the romanticism of their youth finally got to express itself. Here they lived outside the norms of other mortals, breathed the intoxicating air of a world revolution and plotted their impossible dreams.”

Whittaker Chambers warned that cells too numerous to count were meeting in America to plan the Revolution. Around suburban kitchen tables Americans were dreaming the dreams of Stalin, Hitler, Che and Mao. As Mr. Horowitz recounts, these were regular people dreaming of changing the world.

Like Chambers and Horowitz have, Beck is warning us that the Revolution is still stalking our nation. For months he has offered viewers of his Fox program a glimpse of the network of socialist revolutionaries who, as the President stated:

“are constructing the coalitions of power that lead to the redistribution of wealth.”

Avowed Marxists were hired by the present Administration to work in the White House. The President’s mentors were radical Marxists and his policies all tend to the disintegration of the social order and the instigation of an atmosphere of class struggle paving the way to chaos required for Communist seizure of power. Beck’s stroke of genius has been to place the consequences of the President’s ideology before the public in a most striking and compelling manner. The idea that completely free countries were gnawed and swallowed by a few ideologues should shock us into an even stronger determination to fight to the death so our country doesn’t end up like the Ukraine.

The Senior White House Communications Director publically announced that Mao Zedong is one of her favorite philosophers. Whittaker Chambers was so right when he said that we have lost our power to hold convictions and act on them. What else could account for the fact that we could, as a free nation, hear that the President’s trusted advisor admires a man personally responsible for the death of 65 million people, and not, at the very least, demand the cessation of all government activities until a thorough investigation of all the President’s comrades be undertaken.

Certainly Glenn Beck is hoping that reminding America of the unspeakable suffering of the Revolution’s victims will renew our convictions and the determination to defend ourselves against the ideology now animating a hungry Marxist Administration.
