The Party of No

Michael van der Galien was born in the Dutch city of Leeuwarden in 1984. For as long as he can remember, he has been obsessed with the United States. When he was 17 years old, he started blogging - of course about America. His articles have been published at Big Hollywood, Pajamas Media, Hot Air (the GreenRoom) and Right Across The Atlantic. He's also an editor for the Dutch conservative blog, De Dagelijkse Standaard.

I’m watching Neil Cavuto right now (on Fox) and am surprised by his caricature of Republicans. Republicans aren’t and haven’t been saying “no, no, no” to everything, as Cavuto pretends. In fact, even the GOP’s critics (and I’m one them because I believe we should be critical of each and every single politician, no matter what party they belong to; I’m very much colorblind in this regard) have to admit that they tried to reach out to Obama and Pelosi for months after Obama was inaugurated. Democrats responded by either ignoring or ridiculing them.

The notion that the GOP has been the party of no after the ’08 elections is, quite simply, a lie. It’s a shame that Cavuto repeats it regardless.
