Pinochet, who was certainly not a leftist, was the right-wing leader who created Codelco, the state-owned copper enterprise. If anyone had squandered funds, it would be Pinochet's dictatorship, not the Concertación coalition government that has managed the Chilean economy wisely and adeptly for the past twenty years.
