Glenn Beck Interview With Sarah Palin
2010 January 14
In case you missed it, last night Glenn Beck spent a full hour interviewing Sarah Palin.
Their conversation touched on topics not usually discussed these days: God and trust.
See the full interview before the talking heads start putting their own spin on it. You might just regain some of your faith in human nature.

"Their conversation touched on topics not usually discussed these days: God and trust."
Pardon me? Those topics are not usually discussed these days? I can't remember the last day I haven't heard both of those topics discussed on the net, radio and tv. No offense, but Sarah and Glenn's comments on those topics were far from radical or daring. They were straight along the standard conservative line.
Seems to me that Glenn did Sarah a big favor by allowing America to see she is not the person to lead the nation. Mrs. Palin is a fine person; however, presidential timber she is not. The USA needs an extremely capable leader and voters are in no mood to replace one mistake for another.
Unbelievable! You think that the lying, incompetent, socialist who is now our president, who never ran a state or a city, or a business, and who is working to destroy, yes DESTROY our country, our health care system, our currency, the middle class, and capitalism, is better than EITHER Beck or Palin?
May I jump in?
I, for one, certainly hope he succeeds in destroying whatever a twit like you thinks our country is.
What a strange little world you live in.
Saw the entire hour. Comforting that there are people like Sarah and Glenn who are willing to speak up and not get steamrollered like our supposed leaders in government. All of the side deals must be stopped. Our coffers are being drained by the career slugs in D.C. That's what we need – honest people who will serve our best interests – not the same old political party machines that are boarded by their party faithfuls.
Who or what is that Beck and Palin think that makes politicians so untrustworthy once they get to Washington DC? Neither will answer the question specifically. I get the impression that Beck believes (rightly imo) that the right/left paradigm is politics is now unsusustainable and that Palin believes that reform is still possible if only the right people get elected. Good interview.
I was quite disappointed in the 'interview' (?). I have great respect and appreciation for the expose's and info that Glenn has delivered to the American public in the past many months, but last night's chat with Sarah was much more about Glenn than her, and that should not have been the case. I was most anxious to see this event and extremely disappointed in Glenn's apparent inability to get over himself.
Of the six comments posted, Janet, yours, it seems to me, hits the mark. Being a fan of Beck, I was surprised at his emphasis on self. But thinking about it, and with the fame he has achieved over the past year, it might be reasonable to accept, albeit a little disappointing. I have noted that Beck's 2010 shows have been somewhat "lighter" in impact than they delivered last year. I wondered why he would take a "new direction" (his words) when the old still was in demand and so successful. Has he run his course? It would be sad to think so, and bad for America, for he, or someone like him, is needed to keep this administration accountable. As for Mrs Palin, she was less than sparkling, another disappointment, trying hard to agree with Beck, using her colloquialisms to embarrassing excess, while with "uncomfortableness," extending our language. I would add that watching Palin with O'Reilly also was a non-event, but considering the host, understandable.
Full agreement. Glenn was going on and on about himself and then lobbing yes or no questions. I was very disappointed. Also, I would look to Sarah Palin for positive outlook and true hope in the integrity of people and Glenn kept running down a nihilist road where no one can be trusted. He should have called in sick.
I personally like both Beck and Palin, but the interview was an embarrassing love fest. The only meat was at the beginning when Beck said that he could not support McCain and waited for Palin's response.
Palin said something to the effect that McCain had changed; the people were speaking and he and presumably she as well were paying attention. What a bunch of crap. We've had enough of poll taking politicians. We need people who know right from wrong and go for it, not people who are led by public opinion.
It was meant to be an opportunity to see another side of the personality and background od the Governor. It was not meant to be a meat and potatoes interview. So a love fest as you call it accomplished its goal. There should be plenty of time for meat and potatoes. Sort of like meeting your girlfriends family for the first time!
Palin is way more presidential than are current president who was NEVER a governor or had any executive experience! She got rid of corruption in Alaska- when did Obama do that?? Its a good thing she is on t.v. so the world can see that she isn’t crazy which the news lie shooter left out in the cold organizations claim.
Palin doesn’t run on the cult of personality -but actually is a politician that is a servant for those she represented -and isn’t from the politics as usual club unlike Obama who serves himself ONLY. She is very very presidential-like Reagan.
I have to disagree! I thought she came across as someone not capable of running the country. Also, I don't believe her brief governorship was any better than Obama's time in the senate.
I absolutely wanted McCain for President, but if she made a run, I would run away!
Doing things behind closed doors in darkness and scratching each other on the back isn't real presidential. Its dishonest and deceiving. This serves the self serving whims of evil politicians-not their constituents who are paying them.
jac mills,
Regarding last night's tete-a-tete, my feeling is that it was too "staged" to begin with, and much too long to have been riveting under the best of circumstances. I think if Glenn had sat down with Sarah in his studio for fifteen or twenty minutes of conversation with honest interest in her opinions, and questions that would have prompted her views rather than questions which were definitely intended to ultimately give him the stage, you and I at least, would have been much happier with the results. I guess I'm just a bit sad to be so disappointed in Glenn, and so much so that I'm going to email him right now. I hope it was just bad judgment.
Thank you, Janet. We agree. I just get the horrible feeling that Glenn Beck is becoming complacent, his right, after a stressful and torturous schedule last year, in which he accomplished so much for America. The revelations he presented to us were not seen anywhere else and would have gone unnoticed but for Beck. So praise to him for the start. I hope we can find a finisher to continue the work.
These two are wolves in sheep's clothing. They are no more honest than the politicians they berate regularly. I don't see one scruple among either of them. And before any of you rip me apart because Obama is the president, I didn't vote for him and I think he sucks. Almost every congressperson and administration official (this administration and last and more than several before them) are all puppets of Big Buisiness. Don't think Glenn Beck and Sarah Palin are? Beck makes millions from 2 major corporations. I'd like to see him berate them for their errors (not gonna happen). And Palin is a standard politician… she's as much in the pocket of big business as any of them.
If you listen to Glenn Beck then you know he stopped using GM as a sponsor because they went to bed with the government. That shows he says what he means and means what he says. If you believe in Capitalism as I do, I have NO problem with Beck making millions of dollars. The guy went from nothing to where he is today. He IS an American success story and should give all Americans hope that they can do it themselves with hard work and faith. I also think Sarah Palin will be another Reagan if she so chooses to run in 2012.
Palin has ZERO strength in her convictions.
It must be tough living with such cynicism, Zack.
I am sorry… Please clarify for me. Thinking that all politicians are liars and in the pocket of Big Business as Beck pretty much declares on ever program is NOT CYNICAL. Including Beck and Palin in that assessment IS CYNICAL. Sorry… I don't buy his act. Sue me.
Why would I want to sue you? You certainly have a right to express any and all opinions whether I agree with them or not……and I don't. But from your comments I presumed (which is often a mistake) that you don't trust many people, if any, and my comment was very sincere, it must be tough to live that way. I really hope that you don't.
Actually… to be honest, I am a very trusting person. Juxtapose that with my earlier comments and you might not believe it. I am generally optimistic about most things. I just call phonies when I see them. Most politicians are phonies. People like Beck and Palin don't help the situation. Politicians need to have their feet held to the fire, but name calling doesn't do that. Both sides (if you are a Democrat/Republican) are guilty sinners of this. Anyone who does that does not deserve to be taken seriously.
I thought it came off very well, considering it was meant to be an informal introduction for Sarah's entry into the political arena through the Fox Network. which seems to be the only Network trying very hard to offset the mean spirited rhetoric from disenchanted liberals.
To expect anything beyond the fact that it was a welcome aboard conversation where upon to icons get to know each other while showing their human side to the public. Any other vile thoughts should be tempered for later.
I wrote my comment above before seeing yours. I should have waited. As usual you were on point!
Just amazing, isn't it, that each of them creates such large audiences.
It most certainly is!!!
It's a shame that there are so many ignorant and uniformed
Americans. But then again, if one tracks the map of this great
country, it makes sense.
Educated = Blue States
Mostly uneducated = Red States (they actaully allow themselves to be informed with folks such as Beck/Palin'/Hannity)…….it really is amazing and quite embarassing at the same time.
Red states=Free states, Blue states=Welfare states. Your an idiot…plain and simple.
*you're*
Amen IntheKnow!!!
So my question is if I live in NY, I am making you less free because you live in TX?
That's not a question. It's a fallicious argument. Your strawman implication is not logically valid.
Then what do you mean by Red states=Free states, Blue states=Welfare states? You are making it sound like we in the blue states are not real Americans.
I live in a blue state. I am a real American. The term state refers to an institution, in this case, government. You are an individual. The reply was to the deragatory, highly assumptive, fallicious generalization by Mrs. B. who, IMHO demonstrated, a complete lack of open mindedness. A move directly out of Alinskies playbook. The hipocrasy of the statement was astounding coming from someone who (as it appears) is a liberal (whose movement supposedly embraces such "principles").
Beck's theme is that "they" are out to get us. He rambles. He emotes. He utters one disjointed comment after another inserting names, events, dates, facts and figure with little regard to whether they actually apply. In this he provides a mirror for his fans (short for fanatics). They think as he does and look to him to speak their minds.
Palin is actually much less than this. She has the main talking points down and can do the patter. She can nod well, and repeat back to you what you have just said. But, she seems to have the shallowest of information wells imaginable for a public figure.
At three points last night, Beck introduced pet peeve theories about cabals forcing crises that result in fundamental changes to the social, economic and political order. It was clear that Palin had no idea what he was talking about. Beck, picking up from O'Reilly's performance on the previous night, switched to asked a set of "yes or no" questions. Palin is not intelligent or learned, but she is savvy, and she quickly did her part. She kept saying "yes", "certainly" and "of course" on cue.
When he asked her for her favorite founding father, she fell back on her Couric strategy- "all of them". Then she rambled about their diversity (all white, all male, all from the upper echelon of colonial society) and their unity. When pressed she named George Washington. All of those dollar bills she is raking in served another purpose: a tutorial.
Of course, she could provide no reason. A good one would have sounded like this: "Although Washington was not a member of either the Continental Congress or the Constitutional Convention, he was the one that the other Founders turned to again and again when words were not enough. He was a man of action. I like that." THAT is a good answer, not too acadmic, but informed and it fits with her values.
So, they are both frauds…true believers in many ways, but frauds who are making very good livings off of the fears and ignorance of others.
I agree with you.
"When he asked her for her favorite founding father, she fell back on her Couric strategy- "all of them"."
Ah, yes, very relevant question for gauging leadership abilities. It ranks right up there with "Which do you prefer: Coke or Pepsi?" or "Who's your favorite rock group: The Beatles or The Rolling Stone?" or "What's your favorite underwear: boxers or briefs?"
How about this instead:
Over the last year, Alaska has had zero bank failures and has zero budget shortfall and has an unemployment rate lower than the national average. That state of affairs comes from good governance (though I'm sure a political and economic know-nothing like yourself will attribute it to luck).
"Then she rambled about their diversity (all white, all male, all from the upper echelon of colonial society) and their unity."
Try listening for a change, moron. She specified "diversity of opinion and viewpoint." Believe it or not, the word "diversity" can actually refer to something other than race, sex, or economic class. I know that comes as shocking news to a member of the politically-correct class, but I assure you it's true.
"When pressed she named George Washington. All of those dollar bills she is raking in served another purpose: a tutorial."
In that case she would have mentioned Benjamin Franklin, since, with the great success of her autobiography "Going Rogue," she's hauling in a lot more than mere "dollar bills." After all the frivolous lawsuits she was hit with as governor of Alaska — lawsuits that threatened to bankrupt her — she deservers her success. Apparently, envious creeps like you begrudge her this success. I'm not surprised.
"Of course, she could provide no reason. A good one would have sounded like this: "Although Washington was not a member of either the Continental Congress or the Constitutional Convention, he was the one that the other Founders turned to again and again when words were not enough. He was a man of action. I like that." THAT is a good answer, not too acadmic, but informed and it fits with her values."
She's BUSY with an actual life. Unlike you, she doesn't have time to surf Wikipedia for factoids just to impress a few intellectual narcissists (though had she had the advantage of hindsight — as you have had in this case — I'm sure she could have asked her youngest daughter, Piper, to log onto the Internet and look up a few impressive historical facts).
As soon as you can tone down the massive applause you're giving yourself for your own "brilliance", consider this hypothetical response by Sarah instead:
"Gee, you know something Glenn? No one's ever asked me that before! That's a really good question, and really hard to answer. Who's my favorite Founding Father? I'm not sure, since we were taught in school to admire all of them — weren't you? I mean, gee, golly, shouldn't each one of them be our favorite? Isn't your question a bit like asking a child 'Who's your favorite parent?' I mean, gosh, Glenn, any answer the child gives is likely to be very subjective and likely to change over time. Wouldn't you say that a child ought to admire and love each parent equally, even if for different reasons? You do? Good! In that case, I'll answer your question this way: I admire and love all the Found Fathers!"
That's essentially what Sarah said, except she skipped over the introductory material of the explanans and cut to the end. Were she not such a decent person, she would have also gently chided Beck for asking such a pointless and silly question.
That would not only have kept Beck and the rest of the interview on track, it would have saved many conservatives precious time having to reply to asinine posts by pretentious mediocrities like you.
A politician shouldn't have to Wikipedia the Founding Fathers. As they are the ones that created our Constitution, the very basis for American rights, laws, and government, I feel very uncomfortable with the idea of modern politicians not knowing the extremely important and relevant history of the establishment of our nation.
Amazing or sad? Have you seen what television has become? How about "news"? We have devolved into name calling being on par with news. And what's worse is that there is an audience. I weep for the future and to be clear, it's not the fault of the politicians or these stupid commentators. This is the fault of Americans forgetting their civic duties. It's easier to watch tv or listen to the radio then go read and form your own opinions. We all huddle towards the group. Just remember, when this comes to a head, mob IQ is equal to the IQ of the member with the lowest IQ.
Yes comrade! When I sit down to read my little red book I think of how stupid those silly Americans are. There is now way a group of people who have openly vowed to change the US and systematically lie about everything they do could ever get elected to office. With comrades like us scoffing at them, spewing ad hominems that could never happen. Congratulations! You three are the most intelligent people you know. My guess is you are all captains of your ship of fools. Who will you blame when it rams full speed into the iceberg of reality?
What I suggest could never happen? I guess with an attitude like that. I mean… if name calling ("comrade") is something you ARE into, then keep watching and voting the same way you have been. I don't know how you get communist from my post. My post smacks of people taking personal responsibility for their government and "news". If you are suggesting that it's a pipdream to wish that people would wake up and listen to their own convictions rather than be told what they are.. then go vote on them, then you are going to get what you deserve. You call Obama a fringe liberal loon? Great. How does that help? Either he will get reelected or we'll trade him for a Conservative loon of equal inability next time. Watch the liberal commentators name call and mud sling on faulty "facts" until the tides change again. Meanwhile, nothing ever got done except you and your children and their children got taken for another ride to the benefit of the Giant Corporate Machine that controls you and your wallet.
Instead… know what you stand for, turn off the TV, vote on your principles after you do some serious diligence in learning ALL and I mean ALL candidates and where they stand and their records.
It's satire comrade. How can you tongue lash Beck for compelling ordinary, checked out citizens to engage politicians. He is pushing the same agenda you just espoused here :
"We are responsible for our politicians and television shows. Vote out the politicians for some honest people and turn off the television."
As a matter of fact, he doesn't care about the money. He is willing to lose it all. His show is available for free online, no commercials. If he wanted too, he could webcast it to make cashola. Your corporate greed theory holds no water. Outside of the whole compensation concern, you and I probably agree on most issues.
Except for working for a cash for gold sort of company…and then advocating that now is the time to buy gold on his show…hmmmm…
Actually, Glenn has convinced me and I believe a few million others that "they" ARE out to get us, and should this health insurance reform bill (ugh) be enacted, they will have succeeded. Sometimes I come close to hoping it will so that the eyes of people such as yourself will be opened.
Are you implying that I want this garbage health bill that will only help the Insurance Industry to pass? Because the bill I'd like to see is vastly different. I am curious to hear what health care should look like according to Beck. I remember him berating our health care industry in this country about a year and a half ago prior to him on Fox. Now he's a cheerleader for the status quo. Maybe you missed the point of my last post. We are responsible for our politicians and television shows. Vote out the politicians for some honest people and turn off the television.
actually… i must apologize.. I didn't realize this was in response to the other post above.
What if "they" are the health insurance companies. Evidence seems to indicate this is so: record profits, escalating premiums far in excess of expenses, denial of reasonable coverage, and a virtual monopoly. Given the amount of money (more than $60 million) spent by insurance lobbies in the last 6 months, in the face of endorsement for reform by virtually every medical professional group, one wonders about motivation.
So, what has convinced you that the current package (which has no public option and leaves the entire insurance process in the hands of private purveyors) is an effort to "get you."
Who needs a public option? Is it even legal? Why should I pay for your health insurance? Are you going to pay my mortgage? What is the profit margin for an insurance company? Why don't you ask trial lawyers about their profits before you blame insurance companies for escalating premiums? Why have the people who profess to support reform not asked that question? Who has been denied reasonable coverage? What monopoly? There are literally hundreds of insurance providers in this country? Did you even think before you regurgitated those propogandized talking points here?
Enjoyed your avalanche of questions, IntheKnow.
I happen to be a senior who has a medicare advantage plan that I've been quite satisfied with. Does that answer your question?
Us vs Them… great…. We are all Americans… we are all people. This is what this stupid insanity does. It removes the recognition of human beings from the opposition and instead transforms them into ITs. When you relate a person as an "it" people are able to ignore conscience and do what master tells them.
Look for solutions for the group as a whole rather than looking for ways to separate others from the group.
My Fellow Americans,
We've finally done it. With Palin and Beck we have risen to a level of mediocrity that should even impress the ditto heads that follow Rush Limbaugh. Parents out there, take the video games and remote controls out of the hands of your children and teach them to read. Stop them from texting everyone and teach them to write. We are fast creating a nation of underachieving, non-thinking, woefully inadequate adults that we are depending on to lead us in the future. Think I'm kidding? Think again
They are both pathetic!!! Absolute jokes.
However, it does make for great comedy.
How can any common sensed educated American take
either of these 2 fools seriously?
Puleezze!!!
Mrs. B, Glen Beck overcame alcohol addiction, created a successful company, wrote several books that rated number one on the best seller list, hosts enormously popular TV and radio shows, and draws large crowds as a stand-up comic. When you have done these things THEN you can tell me what fool Glen Beck is.
As for Sarah Palin I have reservations about her grasp of political philosophy and economics. But judging from your post I suspect she is lightyears ahead of you. Prove me wrong.
Oh my……and I bet you vote too.
EEK!!!!!!!
Mrs. B, thanks. Your barren response to my challenge proves me right.
Inquisitor, I do believe you have identified a troll. No further attention required…..
Because they are both honest individuals and Beck backs up everything with facts…. most of the time in the "peoples' (and I use that term loosely) own words. But since when has facts gotten in the way of Progressives trying to destroy this country?
oh my god now we have another big fat idiot! glenn your fat face is just icing on the cake…. sarah honey you proved yourself inadequate on the campaign trail… do yourself a favor if you want to embarrass yourself a little less – go home and take care of the kids you claim to love so much. why not practice some of those family values? i love the mess that is the right….
Well said!
We live amongst people who actually
admire these…these…these….2 tools.
Of course you do. You are both trolls….
These two yahoo's are nothing but opportunistic parasites. If your stupid enough to follow these loons then you should scold your parents for putting lead paint in your cereal and raising you around high voltage power lines in a town that dumps their own toxic waste in the water supply. WAKE UP PEOPLE!!!!!!!!! these people are Nazi's only looking to keep the rich richer and the poor poorer and there using you as their pawns.. They are believers in corporate communism.
This is a parody. right Joe?
If by chance you are serious, please enlighten us with your single most damaging evidence against Beck that leads you to your opinion.
"I admire and love all the Found Fathers!"
Of course, that should be "Founding Fathers."
And "The Rolling Stone" above should naturally be "The Rolling Stones."
I am continually amazed that liberal nut cases such as "joe" wish to be a part of a conservative blog such as this one. Seriously, don't you have to wonder why he would waste his time reading the views of David Horowitz et al and those many people who admire him which of course includes Glenn Beck who "joe" refers to as a "yahoo", "parasite", "loon", and "nazi", all in one short paragraph.
What's wrong Janet? That constitutional "free speech" thing bother you when others' don't agree with your ideas??
no sorry glenn beck i don't think sarah will be able to lead and not lose her soul. one she doesn't have a soul and two she is never going to lead
Good on Beck for nailing her on the "All of 'em" response to her favorite founding father. I can't stand either of these lunatics, but at least Beck can articulate his crazyness without resorting to Palinesque "Word Salad."
Hilarious.
So, in order to not be accused of using a "word salad" one cannot "like" more than 1 of something?
only the mentally ill can truly hate and the hate here is proportional to the mental illness in America..
I found the interview disappointing. Too many generalizations. Few specifics. Not interested in SNL whatsoever and would not want to see either Sarah or Beck or both hosting. It would be a waste of time, IMO. I did not like the questions or the answers on the issue of legal/illegal immigration. Too vague and general. It was almost insulting the small amount of time dedicated to that issue. Darvin Dowdy
An overly emotional fear monger groveling at the feet of a half ass celebrity governor pushing a New York Times best seller.
what i liked the most was that you could see the crushes they had for themselves being outweighed, as the interview went on, by the crushes they were developing on each other! great stuff. frightening, but fascinating nonetheless. and thanks to glenn beck for remembering our dear thomas paine…
I did not get anything out of this interview, Glen could have asked some serious questions She made some blunders in Katie Couric's interviews, but now she says that people might mistake SNL for her real self and would insult her intelligence. As an honest person she should accept the fact that she made mistakes and be done with it and move on. Now, she is agreeing with Glen that there are no honest politicians she can trust, and still lying that she did not screw things in those interviews. I wonder why, be honest, I respect you for being a simple person. I respected President Bush for his simplicity, he made mistakes, but was not ashamed about it.
Sarah and Glen should realize that running this powerful nation is not an 8am to 5pm job and still can devote time to your family. We know the fact that all the presidents, at the end of their term, they come out with grey hair and look old as hell like a ragged doll. That is how much it takes to run this powerful nation on the planet, and it needs lot more hours and care than we xan imagine. So it is not a joke, that everybody can run it, especially when you know that you have a big family to take care of with lot of responsibility, and you cannot postpone things even when your family needs you. I like Sarah for her devotion to her family and her christian values. She should chose something that she can enjoy, and also her family, may be what she is doing now. Sarah, you better be careful what you wish for, or else you will regret later by losing all the treasures you have, I mean your family.
