Miep Gies, a gentle woman of valor who helped to hide and provide for Anne Frank and her family as they hid from the Nazis, died late yesterday at the age of one hundred. Gies, who worked for Anne’s father, risked her own life for two years, finding food for the Jewish families hiding in the attic of the Frank’s office buildings.

Following Anne’s death at Auschwitz-Birkenau, Miep helped to publish her Diary, the now world-famous account the young girl had written while in hiding. Miep always downplayed her heroic part in the attempt to save the Frank family, saying that she was only doing her duty as a human being.
